
The results for the presidential election 2012 were published on Sunday. The presidential election goes to second round because none of the candidates received over 50 % of the votes in the first round. In the second round, the two candidates Sauli Niinistö and Pekka Haavisto, who received the most votes in the first round, stand as candidates
Advance polling stations are open in 91 countries at Finnish diplomatic missions or other authorized locations. The number of advance polling stations is higher than in previous elections.
In the presidential elections, each Finnish citizen who is 18 years old on or before 22 January 2012 will be entitled to vote.
Please make sure that your personal data in the Finnish Population Register Office (www.maistraatti.fi) is up-to-date.
If you have received polling cards by mail from the Register Office please take them with you to the polling station. The polling card is not mandatory, but will facilitate the voting process.
You must provide proof of your identity when voting. The identity card must have a photo on it.
